Mexico
boasts outdoor hotspots: Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo
is one of those out-of-the-way hotspots that rises to fame in the outdoor
community for its abundance of game, fowl or fish. For the hotspot of
Ixtapa it's a world-class saltwater fishery.Located on the already angler-fabled
Pacific Coast of Mexico, about 150 miles north of Acapulco, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo
is a rising star. It's actually a dual destination, the modern resort
of Ixtapa and the traditional fishing town of Zihuatanejo. In the waters
off the two towns, abundant Pacific sailfish weighing as much as 175
pounds provide success rates to rival the world's other top spots for
the species. Black and blue marlin also migrate through the region each
spring, with an average fish of 275 to 400 pounds. As sport fishing
has focused greater attention on the fish, world-class individuals of
1,000 pounds have been taken.
